Aim
  • ● To provide the upgraded information regarding steel imports to government and Stake holders like steel producers and steel importers / consumers.
Objectives
  • ● On weekly basis the data procured will be updated on the online steel portal under Ministry of steel for public perusal.
  • ● Enabling more effective decision making and strategic planning of stakeholders.

  • ● Online portal effective from 25th July 2024.
  • ● 24×7 monitoring system.
  • ● Has the facility to view earlier online registrations.
  • ● Incomplete registrations for future actions are also available.
Registration Online submission
Application for registration Not earlier than 60th day and Zero day (arrival date) of Consignment at the gateway port
Registration number An automatic unique registration number is generated.
Registration charges
  • ● Flat rate of 500rs per consignment effective from 15th April 2025.
Validity
  • ● 75 days
Eligible entities
  • ● Importers, importing agents, or brokers. And Foreign filers with Indian IEC are also eligible.
Import authorization
  • ● Importer need to apply after registration through SIMS portal for Import Authorization Certificate.
  • ● DGFT provides the authorization certificate based on quantity, product type and the country of origin.
Legal Consequence As per FTDR Act 1992, punitive action would be taken against steel importers failing to register under SIMS in advance or found to furnish wrong data.
Post compliance
  • ● Requires entry of Registration number and Expiry Date on Bill of Entry to enable customs clearance of consignment.
Coverage
  • ● One registration can cover multiple products.
  • ● Provided the importer, manufacturer, country of origin & port of exportation are same.
  • ● SIMS is not applicable for air freighted goods.
