The National Livestock Mission (NLM) is an initiative by the Government of India aimed at developing the livestock sector to increase livestock productivity and sustainability. Launched in 2014-15, it focuses on improving the availability of quality feed and fodder, promoting skill development and capacity building, and enhancing livestock health and disease control. NLM also supports the establishment of livestock-related infrastructure, including dairy and poultry units, and encourages the adoption of modern technologies in livestock management. Additionally, it aims to ensure better market access for livestock products and increase farmers’ income. The scheme targets various species, including cattle, buffalo, sheep, goats, pigs, and poultry.
